Nu Tau was chartered on March 10, 1989, at the University of Massachusetts Amherst in Amherst, Massachusetts. It was the 31st undergraduate chapter of the Northeastern Province and the third to be chartered in the state of Massachusetts. Its reach also includes Amherst College in Amherst, Massachusetts, American International College in Springfield, Massachusetts, Springfield College, in Springfield, Massachusetts, and Westfield State University in Westfield, Massachusetts.
History[]
Kappa Alpha Psi was established at the University of Massachusetts Amherst with the initiation of Genesis Eight, the inaugural pledge class on May 5, 1984. The university remained a colony of Theta Iota for five years until the Nu Tau charter was awarded on March 10, 1989.

It is with sincere regret that we announce the passing of the following members:
- Terrell Trent Wilson (Nu Tau, 2011) died on May 9, 2016, at Yale-New Haven Hospital; he was 24 years old and engaged to be married. Wilson succumbed to injuries sustained in a tragic accident on April 16, 2016, when his vehicle was hit head-on by a wrong-way driver on Interstate 95 in Milford, Connecticut.

- Dwayne Warren (Theta Iota, 1986) was elected mayor of Orange, New Jersey, on May 10, 2012. His win was considered a shocker given the support the first-term incumbent had from the Essex County democratic machine. After a contentious campaign in 2016, Warren won re-election in May 2016.
