Chi

Chi was chartered on February 15, 1924, at Boston University in Boston, Massachusetts. It was the 22nd undergraduate chapter of the fraternity, the fifth undergraduate charter to be awarded in the then-Eastern Province (now Northeastern Province), and the first chapter of the fraternity in the state of Massachusetts. History

The charter members of Chi were Maceo Hubbard (Epsilon, 1918), who served as the chapter's first polemarch, Julian Evans (Xi, 1920), Courtney Dooley, Theodore Nathaniel D. Scott (Chi, 1924), J. Logan Jenkins, and Jon Hunter.

The chapter was established by three undergraduate and three graduate students who were studying at Boston area schools. Hubbard was a law student at Harvard University, while Evans and Scott were law students at Boston University. Dooley and Hunter were enrolled at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and finally, Jenkins was a recent alumnus of Tufts University. Within a month of its chartering, Chi initiated its first member, Clifford A. Crawford (Chi, 1924), a student at Tufts University.

• Charter member Maceo Hubbard (Epsilon, 1918) died on July 17, 1991, at his home in Chevy Chase, Maryland; he was 92 years old.

Fraternal Contributions

Chi has made significant contributions toward the advancement of the fraternity. The chapter was instrumental in establishing Theta Iota (MIT, Harvard & Tufts) and Lambda Xi (Brown University). Among its members is the current executive director of the Kappa Alpha Psi Foundation, L'Mani Viney (Chi, 1993) and past Northeastern Province Junior Vice Polemarch, James B. Kale (Chi, 2014).
